An assistant Chief indicted for rape was jailed by a Garissa court until all civilian witnesses in the case give their evidence.
The directive was issued after the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) filed the application to have the suspect –Kalmoi Shale Ahmed–stay in custody.
To ensure witness protection, the ODPP had moved the matter from Wajir to Garissa.
On Friday the accused pleaded innocence to charges of rape and unlawful publishing of indecent pictures. Additionally, he faced another count of offensive behaviour.
He asked to be released on bail after pleading innocence but the state prosecutor opposed asserting that he could harass witnesses if set free given his station.
