Five family members in Machakos County have been arrested following an arson attack over a piece of land, which led to the death of a 55 year old woman.
The husband and son of the deceased are fighting for their lives in hospital following the same land dispute.
The deceased identified as Juliana Mwikali had lived in her house for over 20 year, and according to a close neighbour what remained after the arson attack was ashes and her charred body that had been tied up.
“Tulimtoa akiwa amechomeka saana lakini mkono na mguu alikuwa amefungwa na binding wire…kwa hivyo inaonekana walimchoma akiwa amefungwa,’’ said a neighbour.
The deceased son who recounted the event said that he was woken up at 5am and beaten by his cousins and uncles before leaving him lifeless.
“Wakanipiga ile mbaya sana tena wakanikata kata nikiwa unconscious,’’ reported Makau.
Nelson Ngui who is Mwikali’s husband also sustained serious panga cuts by the same relatives who it seemed were determined to eliminate the whole family.
The horrific event left Nelson wondering how the very children whom he helped nurture could turn on him like they did.
According to him, they trailed him all the way to his second home in Mtinto Andei before going for his other wife in Machakos.
The five are already in custody and are set to be charged with murder. This is according to Area County Chief Investigation Officer Rhoda Kanyi.
The contentious piece of land is located in the hilly part of Kyambuko, with both rival sides of the family claiming ownership, putting the blame on Nelson Ngui’s family of delaying division.
The assailants will appear before a magistrate this week.
