Gikomba market traders are counting losses after an early morning fire brought down their property.
A number of structures at the cereals and mitumba section of the market have been destroyed by the blaze.
Sources say that the fire began at around 2am on Thursday. No fatalities have been reported thus far, however property whose value could not immediately be established was lost.
Firefighters were at the scene battling the inferno as traders were rummaging through the charred iron sheets, half burnt pieces of timber and as looking for items to salvage.
At the beginning of this year another fire was reported at the market, with a lot of property being destroyed.
The several fire cases at the popular market have led to severe damage over the years, occasionally leading to fatalities and injuries.
