City dwellers are to miss water as a result of the closure of Ngéthu treatment works. The disruption of water supply will start at 6am Friday, July 10, 6pm.
According to Nairobi City Water and sewerage company (NCWSC) the shutdown will necessitate repair works at Mwagu Water intake along Chania River, from where fresh raw water is diverted to Ngethu Water treatment works.
NCWSC managing director Nahashon Muguna noted that the destruction was brought about by the heavy downpour that have hit the area of late. This paints a negative state for the city because Nge’thu provides 85% per cent to Nairobi. It’s operationalised to treat water with less turbidity.
“While very effort is being made to restore the supply of water as soon as possible, we urge all residents in the affected areas to use water sparingly,’’ noted Muguna.
Affected areas will include; EPZ-Athi River, South C, South B, Nairobi Central District, University of Nairobi, Coca cola factory and Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. The interruption will also affect the whole of Mlango Kubwa, Industrial Area, Mathare, Moi Airbase, Eastleigh, Huruma, Pangani and Kariobangi.
Dandora, Umoja, Fedha, Donholm, Maringo, Buruburu, Bahati, Outer-ring, Baba Dogo and Umoja will also experience water shortage.
