A 35 year old mother and her two children have died after a night fire burnt down their house in Mathare North on Tuesday.

The children aged 12 and 3 together with their mother are said to have choked during the incident as they tried to save some of their properties.

According to reports, the family got stuck in the blaze that is said to have started just before midnight.

A number of houses were also razed down with victims losing properties of untold value.

The police have already began investigations on what caused the fire as confirmed by Nairobi County Police Commander Rashid Yakubu.

But, initial investigations show that the fire was started by firewood that was left unattended in one of the houses.

The bodies of victims have since been ferried to city mortuary awaiting post-mortem.
