Kiprono Kitonny takes over from Samuel Kimani as Chair of Nairobi Securities Exchange Board

Kiprono Kitonny has today been appointed by the Board of Directors of the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) as the new Chair of the Nairobi Securities Exchange board effective from July 13, 2020.

A well-known entrepreneur and business leader, he has a broad management history having been the immediate former National chairman of the Kenya National chamber of Commerce & Industry (KNCCI), the leading business membership organisation in Kenya.

He has also served as the immediate past Chairman of the Media Owners Association – a prominent Kenyan media lobby group.

Until his appointment, Mr Kitonny had served as one of NSE’s Board Director having been appointed on May 30, 2018.

“I am very honoured and privileged to be appointed as the next Chairman of the leading Securities Exchange in East and Central Africa. I salute the outgoing Chairman and will build on his excellent stewardship.’’ Mr Kittony noted.

Mr Kittony has three degrees. A bachelor of commerce (B.Com) and Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from the  University of Nairobi and a Global Executive MBA from the United states international university (USIU).

His seven year stint at the KNCCI has been hailed as one of the most transformative, having revitalised the organisation through a series of programs that positioned the chamber at the apex in terms of influencing national trade and general economic policy.

He also holds various positions in the following institutions;

  • Chair – Credit Reference Bureau Kenya Limited
  • Chair – AAR insurance Limited
  • Chair –  Mtech Limited
  • Chair – Radio Africa Group  (which he co-founded in 2000)
  • Board Member – Business Advocacy Fund
  • Council Member – International Fund for Health in Africa (IFHA), an Amsterdam based privat equity
  • Representative – Global Council of World Chambers Federation

Mr, Kitonny replaces Mr Samuel Kimani who resigned on July 13, as Chair of the Board having served for four years. Mr Kimani however remains on the board as an independent Non-Executive director for an additional year.
