All Kenyans will be expected to be registered digitally and issued with a unique identification number. This is per a new directive issued by president Uhuru.
He noted that details of every civilian at any given time will be captured under a digital database for efficient identification. The National Integrated Identification Management System (NIIMS) will generate a unique number which will be known as Huduma Number.
He added that his administration will complete a central master population database, which will be the authentic ‘single source of truth’ on personal identity in Kenya.
In August last year, assistant chiefs were appointed as Registration officers for the National Integrated Identity management System (NIIMS) digital registration and identification of all Kenyans.
The NIIMS according to the government, will ensure all IDs, refugee cards, birth and death certificates as well as driving licences and passport documentation are printed and distributed for collection from a central location.
Other documentation to be managed by the system are foreigner certificates, work permits, foreign travel documentation and student identification cards.
The announcement comes just days after the DusitD2 hotel complex terror attack where 21 people lost their lives. The database will be under the integrated population identity in Kenya.
The President was speaking during a meeting with national administration and security chiefs from across the country a State House, Mombasa yesterday.
