Months after his son landed a plum job as an MP in the East African parliament, Kalonzo is set to be handed a lucrative job by president Uhuru. Word on the street is that the former vice president is set to be named special peace envoy.
His new role will entail offering mediation and peace restoration in conflict prone areas locally. Additionally, he will occasionally be sent overseas if and when the country’s help is required.
The new development became clear when the president seemed to reveal this indirectly, while giving his speech at the burial of Kalonzo’s father.
“My brother Kalonzo should help us to bring the country together and peace for all Kenyans and even internationally. Every leader has something to contribute…all we need is to give each other space and respect one another!”
The NASA co principal seemed delighted by the offer when it was his turn to offer his thanks to fellow leader and mourners.
Kalonzo has in the past offered his mediation skills in Somalia and South Sudan. He was for example instrumental when he worked with a number of warlords to reach a ceasefire.
He is notably remembered for his assistance in ending the long standing war in South Sudan. Together with General Lazarus Sumbeyio, the managed to realise a resolution that saw Khartoum eventually allow South Sudan to break away.
