A young girl was yesterday beaten to death by her parents at Musangura village at the border of Transnzoia and Bungoma counties.
The release of the KCPE results saw the girl, Abigail, allegedly spend the night at his boyfriend’s, to the chagrin of her parents. The father known only as Baraza, is said to have tied her daughter, to beat sense into her.
It may have been an act motivated with rage, because their daughter had broken a written code, in ways not acceptable at her age.
Neighbours had screams from the beating and when they came out to intervene, they found she had been badly beaten and dragged outside. She was laying on the ground and gasping for breath. As it was raining, the neighbours tried to plead with her mother to take her inside the house. However, all this was in vain, as she became violent towards them.
This act is likely to see parents face a manslaughter charge, for unintentionally causing the death of their daughter.
Though said to be a problem child, her auntie whom she lived with, described her as an obedient child. She however admitted that the girl had a troubled relationship with her parents.
Despite all these, Abigail had scored 277 marks in her KCPE exams, way above what a number of candidates in her region had scored. For instance, in her school, St. Peters Muiruti where 168 candidates had been registered, only 37 had got above 350 marks.
