A Tana River man accused of raping his six year old daughter will be remanded as he awaits a court hearing after failing to raise bond.
As reported by Pulselive the man had previously been given a Sh 200,000 bond after refuting the charges against him. Afterwards Resident Magistrate Alloice Ndege then ordered that suspect be offered personal protection to Malindi Prison where he will be remanded until the date of hearing.
“Just as much I was inclined to order that the accused remain in custody until the prosecution key witnesses who are civilians testify but for the sake of justice I have come to the conclusion by granting the accused bond on appropriate terms. If he is unable to pay, then, he should be escorted to the appropriate place,” Mr Ndege ruled.
Earlier on Monday, in the company of his wife the accused had taken his daughter to the hospital before heading to the police station where he was arresting after the daughter narrated the ordeal.
The parents had noted that their daughter had been hurt by a stick while playing. However, it was found out by the police that the couple had invented the story to save her father’s image.
The victim is since recovering at Hola Referral hospital.
