A DCI police officer has been charged for allegedly sexually assaulting a suspect in Mutunduri, Embu County.
Jervasio Njeru the Embu North Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) chief is accused of raping a woman who was being held over fraud assertions at Manyatta police station.
Mr Njeru was taken up by his associates from the DCI headquarters.
Sources say she was put behind bars on May 30, five days after she was said to have obtained money through false pretence.
She was taken in at Manayatta police station and was released on a free bond after spending a night.
The woman was directed to appear before the Embu DCI officer to on June 2 where she was allegedly sexually assaulted.
The woman was later taken to Embu Level 5 hospital for treatment where she sought medical attention.
Police noted that they visited and documented the scene of the crime.
There have been other similar cases that have been reported at the police station. Early last year a police constable was charged for sexually harassing a 15 year old girl who had been detained in one of the cells.
It is reported that the officer frequently visited the cell where the accuser, a form two student at a nearby school was being detained in spite of her calls.
The girl had gone to seek help at the police station after an argument with her mother who afterwards chased her with a kitchen knife and was retained in the police station as a child in need of support.
Mr Njeru is expected to appear in court on Wednesday.
