A 36 year old man has murdered his girlfriend before committing suicide by hanging himself on an avocado tree.
The man known as Eric Mureithi was working as a casual labourer for Samuel Mwaniki a revered clergy man.
Mwaniki last saw Eric on Tuesday evening as he retired to bed. Mwaniki was hoping to see Eric, as usual, the next morning having agreed on the following day’s schedule.
Mwaniki says that it was unusual the following morning when he realised his cows mooing a result of not being milked.
“When I went to the kitchen I found the body of a young lady with deep cuts all over her body and on checking around I also found the body of my worker hanging on a tree and that is when I alerted police,” said Mwaniki.
The shaken retired PCEA church clergyman note that he wasn’t aware that is worker has a girlfriend for about 12 moths he had employed him and was shocked that the incident had taken place in his compound.
Joseph Mwangi the Nyeri deputy county commissioner who visited the scene said police have launched investigations into the two incidents.
He urged residents to exercise restraint at this time when the country is undergoing harsh economic times as a result of COVID-19 regulations.
In a separate incident, an 82 year old man was slashed to death by his 42 year old nephew in Nyeri’s Kianathi village. The death resulted from a conflict over money the deceased received as part of government’s measure to cushion the elderly and vulnerable citizens.
Elijah Mugo had just come back from the county commissioner’s office where he collected the Sh 4,000 stipend when his nephew attacked him with a Machete and seized the money from him.
Nyeri Deputy county commissioner Joseph Mwangi said the old man had returned to his home on Tuesday evening when his nephew, Duncan Kanini, attacked him.
“When Kanini grabbed his cash the deceased went after him with a panga but he overpowered him and cut him into pieces before disappearing. We were however able to arrest suspect and he is in our custody,” said Mwangi.
