Education Cabinet secretary Prof. George Magoha has poked holes regarding a report doing rounds on social media highlighting that thousands of school girls across the country aged below 19 have been impregnated between January and May this year.
He referred to the numbers as “obnoxious” indicating that a number of NGOs who are lobbying for the introduction of sex education in school could be the ones pushing for the same.
“I would like to interrogate the rate of the pregnancies because they look obnoxious. I am aksing myself as a professor, did these girls go and report that they are pregnant? Who is giving us these figures because they seem to be definitive? Could some NGOs who are keen on pushing sex education be using these exaggerated number?” Said the Education CS.
Despite this the Education Cabinet Secretary wants porn sites to be forbidden in the country, noting they are to balme for the rising cases of teen pregnancies.
Speaking today (Thursday) in Nakuru, Prof. Magoha said he will raise the issue with cabinet and by extension the president to deliberate on altering the law to block data tied to pornography from being accessed by anyone in the country.
“You see when you are not thinking about sex but someone opens a pornographic page then you start thinking about it and generating ideas. Why is that site accessible in Kenya? Who needs it? asked Magoha.
