Cognac lovers got a chance to celebrate 200 years of Hen L at a local hotel – in Nairobi. The event was graced with two members of the famous family – global brand ambassador and eighth generation ‘Henessies’, Maurice Hennessy and his nephew Roch Hennessy.
“I am delighted to have the opportunity to visit Nairobi, its energy and vibrancy is exciting. Henessy has always been a brand without borders, enjoyed the world over. It’s always amazing to see Hennessy being embraced across continents and cultures and it’s important we celebrate this milestone with our valued consumers” said Maurice Hennessy.
According to Maurice, Kenya comes third after South Africa and Nigeria as the top markets in Africa for Hennessy.
The largest maker of cognac started distributing its products in the Kenyan capital in May last year in a move meant to Africa’s second –largest luxury goods market. Its strategy is to exploit the city as a hub for regional distribution. A bottle of Hennessey cognac goes for as much as Ksh 117,000 ($1,127) in the capital’s outlets.
Chief executive officer Bernard Peillon while on a visit last year said “Kenya is a boost market, the next emerging market frontier for us.” The cognac producer is targeting a double-digit sales increase.
