Isuzu mu-x has unveiled a new sports utility vehicle (SUV) in the local market. The car features a seven seat capacity with a 5 speed automatic transmission.
Retailing at Ksh 6.6 million, the mu-X features mobile phone connectivity, multimedia integration to the infotainment system that includes a built in video screen. It also boasts of an impressive ground clearance.
The vehicle is also equipped with an electronic stability control (ESC) and traction Control system (TSC) for maximum road grip during acceleration and high-speed cornering.
“We are delighted to introduce the Isuzu mu-X to the SUV market. This is a vehicle designed for the urban lifestyle professional and people who love travel and adventure,” Rita Kavashe, Isuzu’s chief executive said in a statement.
The launch comes after a recent announcement that new car sales jumped to 13.6 in the first quarter ended March. This is according to latest statistics from the Kenya Motor industry Association (KMI).
Car dealers link this to the realization of orders that were suspended last year due to uncertainty caused by the general election.
Toyota and Simba were among the biggest beneficiaries of increased demand in the first quarter. Unit sales of Toyota rose to 812 in the review period compared to 642 a year earlier. Simba’s increased to 512 from 466.
However, Isuzu the largest dealer saw a reduction of its sales from 971 units to 881 units. This resulted in Toyota (the second largest dealer) narrowing the gap with Isuzu.
KMI’s chairperson Rita Kavashe, who is also the chief executive of Isuzu East Africa, said in a recent interview that the industry is anticipating a sales jump of 10 per cent this year.
